Office 2021 VS Office 365

Office 2021

All Office 2021 editions are a one-time purchase, which means you don't have to worry about renewing them every year, and they're permanently installed on your device. This type of license can be installed on just one laptop or PC and includes the base suite of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Office 2021 Home and Student

This edition offers the classic Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and OneNote, this version is suited for families and students who want to install it on a Mac or Windows PC to use at home or school.

Office 2021 Home and Business

The Home and Business edition is for families and small businesses looking for the classic apps alongside Outlook and the right to use the apps for business purposes.

Office 2021 Professional

This is the most complete edition of Office 2021 that Microsoft offers. It is primarily designed for companies with multiple users. In addition to the applications that are included with Home & Business, it also includes Access for database management and Publisher for creative purposes such as flyers, brochures, business letters, among others.

Office 365

Although Office 365 brings the same Apps as Office 2021, this version and all its editions are an annual subscription, that is, to maintain the license you will have to pay every year to renew it. You can install this version on as many devices as you want including tablets and cell phones, but it will only allow you to be connected with up to 5 devices at the same time.

Office 365 Personal

Office 365 Personal comes with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Additionally, it gives you 1TB of storage on OneDrive so you can save files in the cloud and edit them whenever you need.

Office 365 Apps for Business

The Apps for Business edition is more focused on small businesses or personal use, it brings the classic Office applications, Outlook, 1TB of OneDrive storage and additionally offers Access and Publisher.

Office 365 Business Standard

When it comes to larger companies or if you need to work collaboratively on documents, the Business Standard edition has everything you need. It brings the same suite of programs as the Apps for Business edition, but adds Exchange, Sharepoint and Teams to coordinate teamwork, organize projects and share information from any device.

Office 365 Family

If you want an edition for your whole family, we recommend the Office 365 Family, since it offers the possibility of registering 6 users and that they can connect with their account on up to 5 devices at the same time. This edition includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, and 1TB of OneDrive storage for each member of your family.

Conclusions

We recommend Microsoft Office 2021 if you only need the basic functions for your personal purposes or simply need the security of having the software permanently, since the Home and Student 2021, Home and Business 2021 and Professional 2021 editions are one-time payments, and they will stay forever on the laptop or PC you install them.

We recommend Office 365 if you use the apps daily or work collaboratively on documents and need access to edit or share a file from any of your devices. Office 365 Personal, Office 365 Apps for Business, and Office 365 Business Standard editions are for one user only, but you can install them on as many devices as you need, and you can connect to up to 5 devices at the same time. In the case of the Office 365 Family edition, up to 6 users can be registered and each one can connect on up to 5 devices.
